At Sparta, you’ll start with the 10K Super on Saturday morning, then depending on your finish time and goals, you may not have a lot of time to rest before the Sprint on the Saturday afternoon (a strong Greek coffee will help in between). You’ll have overnight to recover before the Beast follows on Sunday. Train with back-to-back same day and multi-day workouts.

Weather in southern Greece in November is perfect for racing, in Sparta the mornings are cold, before the sun warms everything up. By mid-morning, it can be quite hot. Bring layers and even something you can ditch before the start. Many bring hydration gear such as a vest for the Beast. The course crosses a river at several points; well draining footwear is a must.

FAQ

Due to the global pandemic the 2020 event was canceled. The Greek Health Committee made the decision to limit all events in Greece to a maximum of 100 people daily. We worked tirelessly with the local authorities in Sparta for months, defining new protocols and measures that would have allowed you to race safely, but sadly it was not meant to be.Everyone who had registered for the 2020 event will be automatically registered for the 2021 event.

The standard Spartan Trifecta is earned when anyone finishes a Sprint, Super, and Beast and collects the wedges for all three, which fit magnetically together to form a medal. The Sprint wedge can also be replaced with a Stadion one, and the Beast with an Ultra wedge, creating rarer forms of Trifecta. Many Spartans commit to chase multiple Trifectas in a year. Yes, to earn one of the 2000 spots you need to have earned a Trifecta between the prior year’s Trifecta World Championship, and the day before the upcoming one. This can be earned anywhere in the world at any time, as long as you notch up finishes at a Sprint, Super, and Beast. Don’t worry, you can register before having completed your Trifecta. Elite, Open and Age Group competitors are all welcome.

Rankings are based on your cumulative time across all three distances. The Elite Beast features a staggered start, where racers’ start times will be determined based on their combined time from the Sprint and Super. The competitor with the fastest combined time starts first, then others follow. In addition, all Age Group competitors have their own start heats for the Beast. Elite racers will be battling for their share of $50,000 in prize money, and Age Group for a spot on the championship podium.

If you’re in good enough health to do Spartan, you’re ready to try a Trifecta. To get your qualifying Trifecta remember you can space it out over almost 12 months. That gives you plenty of time to practice and prepare in between, so by the time you’re ready for Sparta you’ll already have three finishes under your belt! Remember also that you don’t have to run the whole way, and failing obstacles isn’t a crime. There’s never a perfect time for anything, so get out there and challenge yourself - racing at Sparta is one of the best experiences you’ll ever have.
